I’ve ran into a few websites that are smart enough to not load the full text of the article before slapping the paywall popup on top, but reader mode has a very high success rate for burrowing under the wall.

Reader mode is also a very easy workaround for flashing design elements, a font you hate, poor contrast, video and chatbots that overlay content, etc. etc. You can easily set the font, text size, colours, page width, and line spacing to whatever is comfortable for you.

Reader mode also gives a reading time estimate at the top, and there’s a built in text-to-voice feature, if those are useful for you.
